Singer, Songwriter & Recording Artist
Singer / songwriter, Lani began as a poet, a child pulling words from her heart and piecing them together into a romantic and pondering format, while searching for life’s deeper meanings. The rhythm of her words and rhymes fell together into a big red binder. When she picked up the guitar at age 15, the magic began! And her poetic lines weaved their way into the chords of her guitar. Her writing has evolved into evocative poetry full of subtle nuance, unique perspective, and at times, playful humour or dry undertones.
Playing and writing music by ear, Lani has spent many years creating songs from heart and instinct and feels this brings a genuine and natural aspect to her music, allowing listeners to relate to her songs and expression. Today, she compliments this with her training from amazing vocal and music instructors, who have helped her to advance as a vocalist and musician. All these experiences have helped to open a whole new world full of fascinating concepts.
With a repertoire from pop to R&B, to soul, motown and bluesy rock, Lani likes to take songs and artists who inspire her and make her own renditions and vocal stylings. Listen to her female version of Marvin Gaye or a cover of Dido, Macy Gray or Tracy Chapman; she might just produce a blend of all three!
Music is a powerful way to connect with people and ignite their long lost feelings of passion. We may have different experiences in life, yet our emotions and desires can be strikingly similar. It is my hope that you will enjoy what you hear and gain insight, courage, healing, and inspiration from the music and words I have packaged together and called “my songs”. Recorded works include two CD’s; a compilation of uniquely styled cover songs, as the duet “Suava” and a collection of 5 original songs on the album debut, “Be Tender”. I am very excited to be composing songs for a new album!
Attending the Songwriters Workshop at the George Ryga Centre in Summerland, BC was an amazing experience. Such an inspiration to be at this spiritual center for creativity and I had my “aha” moment that brought tears to my eyes. Big praise for Roy Forbes and Bill Henderson for their generosity in sharing their gifts, Ken Smedley for making it all happen, and to all the songwriters who attended.
